Within his firm, Mr. Gathogo has been the team leader in all the surveying, planning and GIS projects which have been undertaken by Geosurv. Among the major planning and Surveying project which he has been involved in is the planning, designing and implementation of the 6000 Acres of Kamuthi Housing Project in Thika which he has been the lead consultant. In this endeavor, he has been keen on planning from a participatory approach, bringing in the concepts of creation of gated communities and neighborhood.

He has also introducing the new element of a spatial planning within the surveying and planning fields where he has helped to bring into the system the concept of Land Information System within the planning process. The in his work as a consultant with the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited, (KETRACO), he has stressed the need to create a GIS database for creation of digital maps to be used in analysis and making decisions by the company. In this regard, through his company, he has successfully been able to create a GIS database for this company which is in use. This system contains a number of datasets from land parcels, to images, to attribute information for this map layers.

Due to his integrity and data quality production, he is one of the few appointed surveyors by the Equity bank who handles the bank’s cases on land surveying and planning. He has been involved in various mapping projects notably, mapping of the City of Nairobi in collaboration with JICA Experts (2001-2003), for production of the current state of the art digital maps of Nairobi and environs. In this project he was involved in providing control points (both in planimetric and vertical positions) for the whole project and thereafter, generation of a prototype GIS Model for NCC – rate, Water and Sewerage departments for demonstration to Nairobi City Council and other stakeholders.
